DBW CLUB MEMBERS ONLY HOLIDAY PARTY

We are going crazy over here getting the shop ready for the holidays, but also getting ready for our annual DBW Members Only Holiday Party!  We had such a blast with a lot of you last year and can't wait to celebrate the end of 2023 with you all again.  This year we are combining both the DBW Crowler Club and DBW Wine Club parties, so we will have both wine, and beer tastings.  Double the pleasure, double the fun!

For the wine tasting, we welcome George White from Tradewinds.  We have used Tradewinds a couple times this year for the wine club, and George is so much fun, so we are thrilled to have him tasting some exciting big wines and a Champagne or two.  Just like last year, if you love what you taste, we will have a pre-order sheet and we will get the wines in for you the very next week.

For beer, we are excited to have Ed Foxwell who heads up the beer team at Kysela.  Though they are known mostly as a wine distributor, Kysela has built a pretty exciting beer portfolio which includes Perennial Artisan Ales, Cascade Brewing, and Jackie-O's.

WINE TASTING - NATTY WINE

Please join us for a Mother’s Day Wine Tasting this Saturday.  We will be featuring Natural / Low-Intervention wines from our friends at NATTY WINE. NATTY WINE brings some of the most adventurous and interesting wines from around the world to the U.S. and we could not be more thankful for it. Allison from NATTY WINE will be here to sample a few wines, and share the story of the incredible winemakers that create these stunning wines made using little or no-intervention. We hope to see you Saturday and make sure to bring mom with you!

NATTY WINE X DBW Mother’s Day Flowers:
We will have a few of our hand-tied in house Mother’s Day Bouquets available during the tasting and will be offering a discount on the flowers if you purchase a bottle of wine featured in the tasting. What a Combo!

NATTY WINE:

Natty Wine was founded in DC by Victor Vasquez and Alexander Gable in 2017 as a wine pop-up and event organization company. After several years of research and saving, they made their first series of imports in 2019. Starting with just two pallets of wines from four small Italian winemakers, they now have a growing portfolio of 20+ producers partners from France, Slovakia, Slovenia and Italy; most of which are making less than ten thousand bottles a year.

Inspired by their years of experience working in specialty coffee and service industries, they both found a mutual mission to improve the level of connectivity from producers to final customers, while still taking real steps towards ensuring what you have in your glass is an honestly-made product.

In the early stages of the companies development, Alex was working as a wine and food journalist and researcher in Italy and part time as a sommelier at Milano's Cantine Isole. Alex is still based full time in Northern Italy and works out of our tiny office near Lecco to facilitate regular producer visits and research.

Victor is based full time in the Mid-Atlantic US, and set the stage for Natty Wine's distribution channels and organized the business structure. He manages sales and tastings for NY and the DMV, hosts events and manages all domestic logistics. You can also find him spinning and slinging artisanal gelato at Dolcezza Gelato in DC.

IMPORT SELECTIONS:

The focus of our selections is on hand-crafted beverages that we discover through everyday Italian life. Whether experienced at a trattoria in Langhe or while partying on a dock in Venezia, each and every selection is connected to a real experience that was just too good not to share.

It's not all bells and whistles. To guarantee the integrity of our producer partners to our customers, we personally visit their vineyards and cellars during moments when vineyard labor is in action and wine is being made to inspect production and labor practices at least once a year.

Transparency is at the heart of our mission and we're in the field while working to build a better, more inclusive and more informed direct trade importation system.

ABOUT THOMPSON ITALIAN:

“Our family restaurant is a true labor of love that’s been a lifetime in the making.

Our journey together began in 2007 when we met while working as part of the opening team at West Village’s Dell’anima restaurant. This was after honing our culinary skills at some of New York City’s top-rated restaurants like Per Se, Le Bernardin, and Del Posto. We went on to become chef-owners at three more popular Italian restaurants in Manhattan — L’Artusi, Anfora, and L’Apicio — as well as co-authors of the cookbook “Downtown Italian.” In 2015, we relocated with our two children to Northern Virginia to be closer to family.

Teaming with Falls Church resident and Rose’s Luxury & Little Pearl alumna, Kristen Carson Hamilton (or “KC” as she’s known around here), our collective vision has always been to create a neighborhood spot where people can gather for a great meal in a warm and welcoming place. There’s no better place for that than our own backyard.”

Fatalone - Rosato "Teres" '2020 (Puglia, ITA)
You may say it's too early for Rosé, but trust us: this is from the southern heel of Italy, and is a dark, rich, dry rosé that suits almost any food you pair it with and certainly these back-and-forth blustery spring days. Don't serve it too cold!
$17.99 - 750ml ($19.99 Regular Price)

Il Vinco - Le Capannacce, Grechetto Rosso '2019 (Lazio, ITA)
Made from a local variety of Sangiovese, called Grechetto Rosso, this is from a very rustic old vineyard in Lazio (near Rome). Break out the checkered tablecloth and the creaky violins -- this is heaven with red-sauce pastas and candle-lit tables. (Organic and Natural)
$17.99 - 750ml ($19.99 Regular Price)

Omero Moretti - Vino Frizzante "Sui Lieviti" '2020 (Umbria, ITA)
“Sui Lieviti'' -- means it's aged on the lees -- that is, it's a pet nat! This is how the winemaker’s grandparents made sparkling wine. Fragrant aromas of yellow fruit, such as apple and apricot. This wine finishes with hints of orange-blossom. Lightly effervescent. (biodynamic and natural)
$20.69 - 750ml ($22.99 Regular Price)

WINE TASTING - Andeluna Cellars

Join us Friday, May 6th from 5-7 pm for a tasting of Argentinian wines from Andeluna Cellars of Mendoza. One of the representatives of the winery is in town and will be here to sample and share a wealth of information on the wines, the winery, and answer all of your Argentinian wine questions.

Andeluna Cellars

Andeluna is a family-owned winery located in the rocky region of Gualtallary, Tupungato, Mendoza in the foothills of the Andes mountains of Argentina. The name Andeluna was created from merging two concepts - ANDE comes from the ANDES mountain range where you have a combination of mountain, unique soil, water, altitude and man's knowledge; and LUNA is moon in Spanish, a place of inspiration and magic, both indispensable ingredients for the creation of a great wine. Originally founded in 2003 by Ward Lay, a North American investor, the winery is now owned by the Barale family since Lay's passing in 2011. Manuel Gonzalez Bals is Andeluna's winemaker and Hans Vinding-Diers is the enology consultant.
