DBW natural Wine Club:
The Offices of Special Programs of the Department of Beer and Wine are pleased to announce an exciting new wine program. Launching in the Summer 2022, the DBW Natural Wine Club ! This new alternative to our current DBW Wine Club will take members on a journey of the current “Natural” / “Low Intervention” wine world by showcasing a collection of sustainable/organic/biodynamic farmed wines that have been made with little to no additives or processing aids, no fining or filtering, and naturally occurring fermentation processes. We are fortunate to have access to, and on a daily basis be able to taste, some of the world's finest low-intervention wines and we are so looking forward to sharing a few of them with you each month.
So how will the DBW Natural Wine Club work? And what can you expect each month?
To begin with, this is not the kind of wine club you've likely seen a sponsored ad for on social media. One that promises to deliver the perfect value wine for you based on an algorithm developed by a computer. As cool as a computer picking wines sounds, it’s just not what we are necessarily interested in starting. The DBW Natural Wine Club, rather, is more of a conversation and a mutual exploration of the continuously evolving world of “Natural” / “Low Intervention” wine with our customers. Each month will have a specific theme to the wines and focus on subjects, like old world vs new world style wines, local wines, wines made by women, and of course, wines that are always made with minimal intervention. Members are encouraged to provide feedback on the wines that will be used to tailor the wine selections in subsequent months.
There are two different tiers of the DBW Natural Wine Club to choose from, and both options provide a mix of wine styles. So each month the wines will be a 2-3 bottle mix of either red, white, rosé, orange, or sparkling wine. Each month, just like traditional DBW Wine Club, members will be provided with Tasting Notes, Food Recipes, Members Only Wine Club Blog (a great way to learn more about the winemakers and monthly themes). At the beginning of each month you will receive an email that allows you to schedule a delivery, and to add cheese / charcuterie / gourmet items to pair with the wines, and to add one of our spectacular flower bouquets (when available). Delivery will be free if you are not able to pick up the wines in person (within delivery range). The DBW Wine Clube and DBW Natural Wine Club memberships also make a great gift for the wine enthusiast in your life.
'NATURAL' WINE / 'LOW INTERVENTION' WINE:
Because there are varying philosophies and approaches to 'Natural' winemaking, in the shop we feel most comfortable organizing our 'Natural' wine selections under the more generalized term 'Low-Intervention' wines. The DBW Natural Wine club will therefore, always include ‘Low Intervention” wines, with the specific amount of intervention for each wine detailed in the monthly wine club tasting notes.
Natural Wine Definition :
According to the latest edition of The Oxford Companion to Wine:
Grapes are typically grown by small-scale, independent producers.
Grapes are hand-picked from sustainable, organic, or biodynamic vineyards.
Wine is fermented with no added yeast (i.e. native yeasts).
No additives are included in fermentation (yeast nutrients, etc.).
Little or no sulfites are added.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
DBW Wine Club members will be charged on the 1st of the month and the wines will be ready for pickup during the second week of the month. Because of the ever changing delivery schedules of distributors, we may not be able to get all the wines in stock for wine club members by the 1st of each month, so we appreciate a few days to make sure all the wines are available before pickup or delivery. Each month an email will be sent to members letting you know when the wines are ready for pickup.
It has been a lot of fun to watch our customers be adventurous in wine, and we can’t wait to explore more together via the wine club. The DBW Wine Club programs are something we have wanted to create since the beginning, and with all the changes we have all had to make in our daily lives the past few years, and with the increased amount of time we all spend at home right now, there’s no time like the present to get the club started and enjoy the ride!
